Federal election candidates in Halifax will go head to head in a debate Wednesday night.
Topics will focus on women’s rights and gender justice.
More than a dozen non-profit and advocacy groups are helping to put on the debate, including Adsum for Women and Children, Avalon Sexual Assault Centre, Be The Peace Institute, Bryony House, and more, are teaming up to host the event. For the full list, check out the poster for the event below.
The debate is free to attend and anyone is allowed to ask questions.
According to a news release, they’re planning to cover a few specific topics, including the dissolution of the federal department of Women and Gender Equity, the calls to action of the national Missing and Murdered Women and Girls inquiry, as well as the national child care and early learning strategy.
Two candidates have confirmed they will attend, according to a spokesperson for the Young Women’s Christian Association. That’s Liberal candidate Shannon Miedema and NDP candidate Lisa Roberts.
Conservative Party candidate Mark Boudreau declined due to a prior volunteer commitment at the same time, the spokesperson said.
That leaves two unconfirmed: Green Party candidate Amethyste Hamel-Gregory and People’s Party candidate Maricar Aliasut.
The event is at the Dalhousie Student Union building in the McInnes Room. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
